THE ALIENS AMONG US

It is hard to think of a Dandelion as being an alien plant when, after climbing to the top of a mountain in the Absorka Range, there was a Dandelion. Maybe only a mere inch in height like all mountain top plants, but an unmistakable Dandelion. Now at the edge of my driveway in Ontario is the Yellow Rattle wildflower, courtesy of my car tires, or my neighbour's truck tires, we've both been  in the West.

A Hover Fly checks out a Chicory flower.

Raised in farming country of Southern Ontario we learned early about noxious weeds. No matter how pretty the flower - chop chop. So, it was with great wonder as we drove north of Sudbury in 1965 to see the ditches full and overflowing with all sorts of "weeds".
Creamy Vetchling and Cow Vetch, some vetches are native others are aliens.

Some people learn to love aliens and just let them do their thing. A lawn in full Hawkweed.

Local critter develops taste for alien food.
