BOREAL FAN DANCERS

RUFFED GROUSE COURTING

The hen in the tree caused quite a stir of emotions.

A lot of head shaking.

A lot of wishful glances.

A lot of competition. Three 'toms" alltogether. (2 here)

The Ruff ruffed.

The tail tells the tale as to where the female is.
It always displays toward her direction.

Very slow steps, interspersed with head shaking,
 ground pecks
and then a fast sidle toward the hen's position -
for about five feet
and then he stops and starts his dance moves all over again.

They do a lot of just waiting, too.

Side view.

Another interested bystander, the red squirrel.
