LYNX 2018 with my poem

I wrote a poem in 1968.

Fifty years later I got THE photo to go with it.

 

STARLIT NIGHT

The snow is scarlet the snow is white

I am alone in the starlit night

The blood of my veins is pulsing delight

As the blood of my kill is staining the white

And I scream forth my triumph

To the dead of the night

This is my instinct, thus I must kill

You can not deny me, try as you will

For I must live and I live to kill

The heat of the race, the capture, the thrill

When there’s none to deny me my right to my kill.

Catching up on 2017

Northern Goshawk

Christmas week visitor.

Left without any meal being caught.

This was the Northern Goshawk on Dec. 1.

 

This was the fifth of December when we had sort of rainy, icky weather.

 Didn't dampen his spirit one bit... his feathers, yes! Ruffed Grouse.

 

This is his normal display tail.

 after the Lynx walked through the day before Christmas.
Which was a surprise - no camera!

 

 

Hairless Squirrel, not sure how this will end

July 14, 2017

 

Very surprising sight.

 

Cropped image of red squirrel missing most of its hair.

 

By late day it had less hair than this. Today, July 15th very little at all left.
 However it is participating in all things squirrels do and is very active.

Checking on the 'net lends one to hope it is just a damp weather fungi attack

 and being warm weather he should survive. One hopes.

The Beginning

 

The outline is done in black modeling clay.

 

Three shades of orange modeling clay adds the wing colour.

 Leaving the white board show through.

 

Giving it a "foot-hold" on a dandelion.

 

Leaves and grass appearing.

 

Continuing with grass and leaves.

 

After a 24 hour break, starting to finish the grass.

 

Closing in.

 

Complete.  Now it sits for about a week before I put a gel on to seal it.
