SANDHILL CRANE

An afternoon stroll. Nipigon.

Grus Canadensis

Wingspread to 7 feet.
Size : 40 - 48 inches.
Collins writes, " Large birds like these cranes were easy targets before protection.
 The Sandhill Crane has never recovered its earlier numbers,
 and never will,
so long as we keep on draining our marshes."

Wing-span: 3 - 3.5 cm
Active: at any time of the day or night.
Dark gray with sharp silver and light gray markings.
